Judge Warren McSweeney

Judge Warren McSweeney grew up in Greer, South Carolina and is the son of Colin and Jackie McSweeney. He graduated from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina in 1998 and began law school at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina in the fall of 1998. Following graduation from law school in 2001 he successfully passed the North Carolina Bar Exam and began work as an Assistant District Attorney covering Moore, Randolph, and Montgomery Counties. He served the people as a prosecutor for over seventeen years and sought justice for the State of NC in homicide, sexual assaults, armed robbery, kidnapping, weapons offenses, and drug trafficking.
In 2018 he was elected without opposition to a seat on the District Court bench covering Moore and Hoke counties. He successfully defended his District Court seat without opposition again in 2022. As a District Court Judge he presides over cases involving misdemeanor criminal offenses, family court matters such as custody, child support, divorce, alimony, and equitable distribution, cases involving Department of Social Services, juvenile delinquency, and civil matters.
Judge McSweeney is a past President of the Moore County Bar Association, former member of the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, and has taught hundreds of law enforcement officers as a certified general instructor. Warren is married to his wife, Melissa, who has over 20 years of service in law enforcement with the Southern Pines Police Department. Warren and Melissa have a blended family of six children and attend First Baptist Church of Pinehurst where he serves as a Deacon.
